When Paul is two years old, he throws a tantrum and nearly destroys several Atreides heirlooms. Jessica is tempted, briefly, to use the Voice to make him behave, but she knows enough not to go down that path; generations of Bene Gesserit before her have been able to properly guide their daughters, not reduce them to helpless beings unable to hold their own in a normal conversation.

She knows that soon she will need to begin molding him to develop his own powers, and that scares her almost as much as the prospect of controlling him, but not yet; for a year or two more she can pretend they are a normal family and the prospect of a toddler acting out is the worst she has to face.
