It was what Draco had thought he’d wanted, what Father had brought him up to want, raising him in the belief that one day this was going to come to pass, and yet now the Dark Lord had won, Draco felt like it wasn’t a victory for anyone.
He thinks of how proud he’d felt when he’d bragged to his friends of the Dark Lord’s plans for him, then of the pressure the Dark Lord had put on him, the threats he had made towards his family if Draco failed to kill Dumbledore.
Then he thinks of how Potter and his friends had saved him, even though they’d never liked him, and how the Dark Lord would have cast him aside without a thought for anyone but himself, and Draco wonders if he backed the wrong side.
