Seducing Dob away from Katie was, in retrospect, probably not the best way to handle the problem, but they were running out of time and better ideas.

Prudence doesn't regret it, anyway; she thought Dob's cutesy nicknames and smothering adoration would get exhausting before they were far enough from Katie to end it, but it turns out that without somebody to feed into that instinct, he's much easier to handle. He's thoughtful about what she actually likes instead -- her collection of interesting books keeps growing every time they stop somewhere, even the songs he writes her are the kind he knows she'll enjoy, and she's still put her foot down on most of the nicknames, but his little smile when he calls her Pru makes her want to kiss him more often than not. And then there's the way he kisses her, which is worth an entire list of reasons to keep this going by itself.

She'll admit what her plan was one day, when it stops being so much fun. Right now, she thinks this might be the best bad idea she's ever had.
