She thinks of him, as the ages pass, as everyone she has ever known and loved dies and leaves her. Husbands, children, family, friends — she lives a hundred lives and in every single one, she remembers him, remembers the greatest (kindest) thing she ever did, putting an end to his long life and giving Ravka a new beginning.

When she opens her door one night, and sees him standing there, framed by the setting sun, she wonders if it's her turn to be set free, or if it's yet another new beginning.
