Stinging from her father's latest lecture, Zelda flopped down on her bed and tried to decide whether she felt more like screaming in frustration or sobbing herself to sleep. She'd just about made up her mind to silently marinate in resentment when there was a scratch-scratch at her window.
Of course. She'd forgotten it was a full moon tonight.
She opened the door and a silver wolf leaped through, some small dark thing in his mouth. "Link," Zelda whisper-scolded, "I told you to leave your dinner outside-!" but then Link turned toward her and she saw what was in his mouth. "...is that one of my father's shoes?"
Link wagged his tail and gave the shredded shoe an instructive shake, and Zelda's bad mood evaporated at once. She sat down, laughing, and Link dropped his prize to come to her for ear-scratching.
In the daylight, Link took his orders from the king - but his wolf-self could be on Zelda's side. And it would be difficult to take Father's next lecture seriously when he was lopsided.
