I went ahead and reread the scene, and I love what this adds -- the expansion of what's going on in Attolia's mind, and the commentary on what it's like to see the gods, and the too-bright gleam of his eyes, with all the sharp humor and none of the subtle kindness. Oh, I love this note, the differences between Gen and his god. <3
And the "well, then" -- so much work in those two words, from the resignation to the her sharp awareness of what happened and what she ought to be about it, and of course the "...time to pray again". And how that feels to me like equalizes her relationship with the gods, even as she's petitioning, and how pragmatic her response is to the whole divine possession thing. xD
And also, the switch in naming from Attolis and the queen to Irene and Gen and the end -- lovely!
