After three years on the island plus three more on the run from his father in law, it’s been a long time since Desmond’s seen snow, (it wasn’t until the snow arrived that he realised how much he’d missed it) and he’s excited that he and Penny are going to get to introduce Charlie to it for the first time this Christmas.
They have a snowball fight, build two snowmen, and for a few moments there it feels to Desmond like things are finally getting back to some sort of normality, like he can forget everything from the island ever happened.
Then Charlie says he got a joke about snowmen in his cracker, “What did one snowman say to the other snowman?”, and even though the cracker joke has the answer of “Freeze” instead of the “Smells like carrots” Desmond was told his replacement should say, for a moment there he’s right back on the island again.
