Edith knows she was the one to ruin everything, so she knows she's the one who has to make this right. Peter's would kill her if he knew she'd snuck into the ranks with only a borrowed set of armor and about three days of lessons into how to use a sword. Her armor will fail to protect her, but when she brings her sword down on the witch's wand, for a moment she feels like baring her teeth and roaring.

Getting stabbed in gut is not exactly the celebration she wants, but after Lucy gives her a dose from her cordial, she sits up and lets Susan sob against her side.

"E," Peter says grabbing her by the shoulders to shake her, "if I didn't love you, I'd break your skull. Why can't you ever do what you're told?" But he is smiling, tears dripping from his eyes, and his voice is so warm, warmer than it's been in years, and it doesn't feel like there's a frozen gulf between them anymore.

She should say something glib, something to break the mood; she doesn't though. She lets herself fall into his arms, laughing and crying as they and their sisters grip them tight, gloriously alive and finally unburdened.
