"So...we've been dating for a while now," she said, snuggling against him.

Jake nodded. "We've known each other for so long."

"I'm not sure three months is a long time. But never mind." She bit her lip. "So...I'm not seeing anyone else right now. Are you?"

He shook his head, and she smiled.

"I'd like you to be my boyfriend," she said, giving him a hesitant glance. "How do you feel about that?"

"A full commitment's what I'm thinking of," he said. "I just want to tell you how I'm feeling... Gotta make you understand."

He took her hand, trying to express the truth of his words through his voice and his eyes. "Never gonna give you up. Never gonna let you down. Never gonna run around and --"

She tore her hand away, bolting out of the couch. "You asshole! Are you rickrolling me? I was being serious, but you -- that's it, we're over!"

As she stormed out, Jake wished once again that he had been nicer to the old woman he'd met on his morning hike.
