I would rather walk, Agnes thinks, refusing even to smile as she turns away from him - and right towards a very familiar approaching figure, preceded by a very happy dog.

"Hello, darling," Keith says, smiling, as John bounces on his front paws but does not jump, eagerly awaiting his hello scratch between the ears, "I heard about the train cutoff, so we thought we would come and collect you? The car is around the corner." he offers, along with his crooked arm, and Agnes smiles as she loops her own through it.
