It's making them whole, too - at the final battle Zelda sheds Sheik's clothing but not his name, walking like a proud Sheikah man in a dress that snaps around his ankles in purposeful rhythm, and Link's heart sings in counterpoint as they follow, as whole in the neither of the man-woman question as Sheik is whole in both.
