"You know what they say," Jack said, leaning back in his chair and clasping his hands over his chest as he watched Button Down Theo disappear out the door.

"I don't, but I have a feeling you're going to tell me," Trixie replied, already not liking where this conversation was going.

"True love never ran smooth."

The girl detective raised an eyebrow. "Shakespeare you are not," she said. "And," she added after a moment's thought. "Never refer to me and true love in the same sentence again."

She couldn't be sure, but she thought Jack chuckled at that. She added it to the list of reasons to shoot him someday anyway.
