Caithe tries, as she has tried for years, to make this work--Destiny's Edge is so close to reconciliation and reunion that her hope sits painfully in her chest--and still she fails: they argue, they squabble, each pretending that only they themselves are haunted by the ghosts that linger over them all.

Faolain's embrace is just as she remembers, belladonna sweet and nightshade bitter, but it is the only thing that has never been lost to her. Faolain receives her with open arms and a promise of a quiet death, but at least she won't be alone anymore.
