the way our horizons meet (ST:TNG, Geordi/Data)

When Geordi gets back to his room after a long and exhausting shift, the kind where he sometimes felt like he was holding the ship up by sheer force of will, he has a message, so he sinks into a chair and asks the computer to play it, hoping it won't be another summons to Engineering.

"Hello, Geordi -- I saw a star," the message begins, and Geordi sits up in his seat as Data continues, "and I remembered that time we were on an away team in a nearby sector previously, on an uninhabited planet where the stars were very bright -- do you remember? -- and thought that I should send you a message."

Geordi's eyes weren't really built for seeing stars, but he remembers that day, long ago when they were both posted on the same ship, and Data had carefully described the positioning of the lights in the sky, and the way that Data rested his hand on Geordi's shoulder -- and suddenly he's not so tired anymore; he's grinning instead.
