The 2015 Three Sentence Ficathon is now CLOSED, with over 4,100 prompts, fills, and comments.  It's been a great exchange and thank you so much for the whacky crackfic, the moving short fic, and the amazing cross-overs.  You all are great.  I won't freeze this -- go ahead and continue to fill any prompts that interest you and comment on fills made.  I just ask that there not be any more NEW prompts.

We'll be back next year.  Check out the friending meme and friend away and if you post your works on AO3, be sure to use the 3 sentence ficathon tags.

Thank you again, so much!

It's been awesome, you all are awesome but the 3SF will close tomorrow, March 8, at 11:59 PM Eastern Daylight Time.  (and we lose an  hour tomorrow!).

edit:  I will leave the thread open, so that people can continue to fill prompts and comment upon existing fills.  Ideally, there won't be any new prompts.  (Until next year!!)

First, back when I concluded H&M, I had intended to post 2 epilogues. I decided against it because I was satisfied with Acceptance of the Terms. But I did have several thousand words of the AU version of it, Rejection of the Terms, Everybody Lives, Nobody Leaves. I was really worried that it was nothing but a vanity project and spewing things you've already read. Some of it you've seen before because I pulled from this draft to write Lost in Translation. Lots of it is new. [personal profile] heliopausa , ruanchuxian0 and [personal profile] syrena_of_the_lake all read it and thought it was OK and not too repetitive, so I polished it up and posted 11,800 words of it. So, I hope you enjoy it. It's on AO3 and FF.net

Second, [personal profile] autumnia pointed me in the direction of this amazing article about a girl who started leaving food for crows and now they bring her gifts.

Third, in addition to the roving llamas here and here (last one set to Born To Run) (and yes, I'm working on a fic about them -- watch this space), and the mysterious colored dress, there was this picture that went viral today of a weasel leaping on to the back of a green woodpecker.

Source and article here.

All of these, btw, have launched fic on the 3 sentence ficathon.  It's winding up this week on Sunday but there's plenty of time to play!!

Last, this all comes to you despite zomg so sick.  I had an emergency root canal on Friday followed by the worst respiratory crud thing I've had in years.  I've missed the last two days of work and we're getting more snow so who knows when I'll make it back in.  Anyway, that is all.  Thank you so much.  If you like the story, I hope you'll let me know.

Also, wasn't Star Wars Rebels FUN?  And Agent Carter?  And isn't Elementary good this season.  And gosh, I bought the hype and went back for the last episode of Sleepy Hollow, and was SO GLAD I DID.  Yes, anything?

Wow, so we're well over 3000 comments and fills and every time I think it's getting quiet, 10 more notifications show up.  I'm skimming a lot of it, and have noticed a few bumps that seemed resolved before I could do anything.  You all are awesome.  I've seen lots of posting on AO3 too.  I'm closing the 3 SF in 2 weeks, on March 8, and then we'll do it again next year!

So, here's the opportunity to get to know one another, if you like.  Share who you are, where you hang out, and what your interests are.  I'll start in comments.

Well, 3SF went live 4 days ago and we're already nearly to 1000 prompts, fills, and comments. YOWZA. Welcome to everyone that is new and welcome back if you were here before!  Thank you for spreading the word!  Thanks so much to all of you for playing along.

I know that it's intimidating to come into 3SF late, especially when it explodes so suddenly. You can't keep up (I know I can't and I'm getting copied on every single comment!) Don't worry about it. Skim if you want or just start anew.    Don't worry if there have already been a zillion prompts in your favorite fandom; come to think of it, I've not seen any Susan/Maglor yet.  [personal profile] vialethe ?  [personal profile] snacky ?

I use the word "host" deliberately - given the speed and volume, I can't mod this.  If there's anything you see that is very concerning, drop me a line or send me a PM or email.  I'm easy to find.  Best way to keep me from having to do or say anything is to carry on as fabulously as you already have.

Last time, we did a friending meme and I'll put one up in a couple of days so we can all get to know one another.

Also, if your fill is fem-oriented, please consider posting it over in the Half-a-Moon community going on right now. You an also post on AO3 under the 3SF tag. (There are probably a couple of them, but here's one, three sentence ficathon

That is all and thanks again!

It's been 2 years, so why not?!!

Caramelsilver ran one in December on Live Journal but I was too busy to play.  There are lots of outstanding prompts over there, so do go and check it out!!  Here's the link!  I did one in early spring 2 years ago here on Dreamwidth, and with Yuletide, Fandomstocking, and Festivids over, I thought I'd run a new one!!  Thanks so much  to [personal profile] snacky and Saoirse7 for the nudge and to [personal profile] st_aurafina for making the swell banner and icon!

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do first?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character(s), prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed and even encouraged!

But I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please signal boost this to your flist, followers, and any other places you frequent.  Come one, come all!
I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).  Please, post this anywhere and everywhere.  The more people who come and play, the better!

[And I'll try to put an embed code in so you can spread the word.  I've tried multiple times and failed so far
[personal profile] snacky  !

How long will it go?
I'm closing it on Sunday, March 8, 2015.   (Last time, we reached 5,000 comments and I had to start a new one before the ficathon concluded.  If that happens, I'll start a new post).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  A lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.  3SFs are a terrific prompt for remixes.

Gosh, there are some cool people over here.  How do I introduce myself?
Through the friending meme right here.

And here, have some icons!

Welp, I'm ages behind on everything, and  have been writing up a storm on the things that pay the mortgage.  Also, getting older sucks and I've been struggling with a whole string of health-related things.  Nothing overly serious, at least not yet, but all requiring management.

I fell into binge watching The Librarians, I love Agent Carter, got caught up on Elementary, which has been so strong this season and now reruns of Master Chef have been on BBC America so I've been working out at night to that.
Also, FESTIVIDS are live, awesome and I love them
And Half-A-Moon is live, 14 days celebrating women in fandom, so GO FORTH and at least share links and recs!  I've not done anything yet.  I usually do at least rec list of a few fics I've enjoyed that are fem-oriented.

IT IS OBVIOUSLY A SIGN FROM THE PANTHEON OF FIC DEITIES BECAUSE I RECEIVED 2 QUERIES ABOUT HOSTING A 3 SENTENCE FICATHON ON DREAMWIDTH.  SO THAT WILL BE OPENING TOMORROW!!  I horrible at banners and things but I'll try to do something there.

Blather about TSG, committment to update, and such )

Or Happy New Year in Romanian.

I hope you all had a good year. There is a very amusing posting on Tumblr right now lamenting the loss of Live Journal.

fandomlikefinewine:

Trying to figure out Tumblr after being on LJ for ten years.

I won't do an annual word count.  I know it's smaller than previous years, even if still pretty big.  The 3 Sentence Ficathon is going on and it erupted over the last 24 hours into a massive crackfest of Lord of The Rings/Narnia xover.  Now, let me be clear, I LOVE Eowyn and Faramir.  I LOVE Aragorn and Arwen.  I LOVE Eomer.  And yet, somehow, Peter/Eowyn and Lucy/Aragorn have lodged themselves in my brain, along with, wait for it, Faramir and Edmund.  Utter crack.  (it's in the later pages, 29-32)

Which reminds me, this has really gotten my Eowyn thoughts going again because every 10 years or so, my Eowyn opinion undergoes a cosmic shift and I'm in in the middle of a new one.  Also, I saw and yes, enjoyed the Hobbit very much. So, maybe another post on that, yes?

In closing, my thanks to you all for another awesome year.  If I were to say, what was the best thing for me?  Probably our trip to England meeting awesome and charming online imaginary friends, and paying homage to Darwin, Mary Anning, Bletchley Park, and the Oxford Museum.  And the addition of the Corgi to our family, Thorin Corgishield (who thought the Pottery Barn catalog was delicious)

If you have something good that happened to you in 2013 that would like to share, please do so in the comments.  And may there be more of the same to you and yours in 2014.

Three Sentence Ficathon is now closed. Really. Really and truly over. Right now. Until next year. Really. Go forth and write more fic without limiting it to 3 (ok sometimes more) sentences! Free the plot bunnies! Write epic Susan/Maglor! Express your Richard III feels in Haiku! Remember it's always better with dragons! Or Bacchus! Tell us about Cassandra and Penelope, Cleopatra and Clytemnestra, Mass Effect and Assassin’s Creed! In fic!

I'm not going to close the posts to comments because already filled-prompts deserve love and attention. If someone wanders in and fills a prompt or offers a new one, that's cool and I'm not going to go all stompy boots.

This has been a wonderful, wonderful exchange.  I've met some lovely new people and have read amazing fic.  This exchange beautifully demonstrates that civility, creativity, and community can still thrive on journaling sites.

In some places, you never read the comments.  Here, the very best is to be found there.

My thanks to all of you for a great exchange. I'll certainly host this again next year!

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

Wow.  Well, the votes are in and after almost 5,000 prompts, fills and comments, I decided to start a new post that will carry us through the conclusion of the 3 Sentence Ficathon which will conclude on April 7, 2013.

We have lots and lots of unfilled prompts still.  So, if you posted or saw a prompt you really would love to see filled, please post again here in the new thread and hopefully someone will give you an awesome fill!   Please continue to commented upon filled prompts and thank authors, but all new prompts and fills should come  here.

My thanks to everyone for the incredible participation.  Interest has flagged the last couple of days and I'm not sure if it's just that 4900 comments and 49 pages is just too daunting or if everyone has run out of ideas.  With a new thread, maybe this will make it easier for people to navigate it again, or maybe everyone is off on Spring Break!

To recap:

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This all started with the lovely CaramelSilver (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!).  This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

And thanks to Metonomia for the spiffy icon!

How long can it go?
The 2013 3 Sentence Ficathon will close on Sunday, April 7, 2013.

Are there any rules about cross-posting?

Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

[personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

Wow. This has been amazing. There are over 4,100 comments to the 3 Sentence Ficathon entry. The quality, the discussion, the prompts, the fills, the participation, and you all, have been amazing.

We have a friending meme here and a cross posting post here, so drop a line if you are so inclined with your vitals and where you are cross posting your work!

Even with all that activity, over 40 pages in the original thread, I'm still seeing new participants and fills to old prompts. I know, though, that it's becoming daunting and difficult to manage. I know I've missed some great prompts and fills.  So, what next?

I'd originally intended to run this for about as long as the fabulous CaramelSilver did in 2011 and end the challenge on April 7, 2013. I know a lot of folks will be on spring break over the next two weeks, so that would give time for more participation. Do we continue to that date or stop while we're ahead?  If we do continue, to April 7, should I start a new thread, realizing that we'll lose some of the excitement and momentum but also may encourage others who are finding 4100 comments and 40+ pages too overwhelming?  Please vote below and share your thoughts on how to proceed and anything else about the 3SF.  If not April 7 for an end date, when?

Also, if anyone wants to make icons or banners do link us in comments!

Most of all, thanks so much.  You all are great.

Wow, this has been pretty cool, hasn't it?  CaramelSilver started something wonderful and I've been thrilled to see so many people come by with so many wonderful prompts, fills, and comments.  The feedback has been so generous.

There's been a terrific influx of anthropomorphic prompts with some hilarious results.  Last night and today, there were fills written in haiku.

I know though that with it getting so big, it's getting harder to find things.  As mentioned in the Master Post, [personal profile] lady_songsmith is archiving the fills  on delicious https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence and if you are willing to give her hand with the tagging and archiving, drop her a line.

If you post your fills or recs for other fills to your journal, Tumblr, or on a fic archive like AO3 or fanfiction.net, I hope you'll let us know and post the link in a comment below.  AO3 has a 3 sentence ficathon tag.

Thanks so much to everyone who is participating.  Keep it coming!  There are lots of prompts still to be filled!  This has been great.

With over 1000 comments in less than 48 hours and so many new names (at least for me), I thought maybe we should do a friending meme for those participating in the 3 Sentence Ficathon. You can then, if you wish, start linking, cross-linking, friending, and checking out the work of the authors whose 3-sentence prompts and fills have thrilled and excited you. So, I'll start in comments below. Obviously, there's no obligation to participate in this at all. Anons and open IDs are welcome.
