3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

EDIT!  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS,  PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS
HERE!

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

There's more to Joseph than Caesar could have ever guessed, but if there's one thing that constantly threatens Caesar's growing tolerance for him, or at least Caesar's barely-leashed restraint from dunking him into the nearest fountain, it's Joseph's infuriating insistence on predicting the next conversational turn.

"Now, what you're going to say is, 'Smooch me with your plush kissable lips, you irresistible hunk of man,'" Joseph says, leaning back in his chair.

Technically, he's wrong, if only because Caesar doesn't say anything before yanking him forward by his scarf to shut him up.

Aslan's Traveling Circus

[personal profile] tiny_white_hats 2013-03-19 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Caspian follows his longtime teacher, Dr. Cornelius, into the tents beyond the big top in a daze, struck by a dizzy sort of awe.

"May I present my pupil, Caspian?" Dr. Cornelius asks, looking questioningly at four young men and women standing in front of the motley crew of circus performers as if they were royalty, as he brags, with a proud smile, "The finest swordsman I've ever trained."

"Well, let's see what you've got, Caspian," the oldest (who can only be Peter, the lion tamer) smirks, and the two young women (Susan, the sharpshooter, and Lucy, the medium) exchange looks with the fourth (undoubtedly Edmund, the sword swallower), just as Peter announces, "After all, we're going to need someone to take over Aslan's Traveling Circus, now that our time here is almost up."

I also have you slated to open the castle library to the public--just a few polite remarks on the necessity of education for all should do the trick, and could you remind them to please mind which books they read aloud, as we've not entirely weeded out everything with spells in it just yet, and oh, yes, before I forget, the Cook says our kitchen hiring policies require a complete overhaul, as that's the second scullery maid she's lost to marriage with a visiting prince; apparently this is something that is actually in her contract, and it's become a union issue."

"Willin," said Cimorene, still frozen beside her bed in the act of drawing on her dressing gown, "just . . . no."

When Diana was twelve she dreamed of having a very best chum she could share everything with: one who listened when she complained disloyally about her mother, and walked with her when Ruby and Josie were linking arms and whispering on the path ahead.

She had barely known Anne ten minutes before that imagined friend had dissipated on the air like the poor and inadequate shade she was.

Diana's imagination could never have been good enough for her to dream of Anne Shirley.

Not sure if this is what you were looking for...

One evening Sara and Becky steal away, up the stairs to the dim dustiness of the Indian gentleman's attic, where a naughty monkey once escaped and set the magic in motion.

Sara drags a table to the window, and she and Becky stand on it and gaze out at a Splendid one, a sunset that paints the chimneys and rooftops of the city with lavender and rose and gold.

Becky says in a hushed voice, "Oh Miss, it may seem queer, but I've missed this, I 'ave," and Sara holds the prisoner in the next cell tightly by the hand and replies, "So have I."

If ever she had dreamed of what her life would be like ten years after she joined the abbey, this would not have been it. Smiling, she looks around at all of her children; all eight or nine of them now, and remembers the difficulties she originally had with them, falling in love with the Captain, the flight from the Nazis, and the eventual trip back to Austria. No, this wasn't quite what she had had in mind, but seeing it now, she wouldn't trade it for the world.

When he runs his hands through the deep black of her hair, they come away with bits of down clinging to the tips, caught on the ragged edges of his nails.

He laughs and says they must need new bedding, for theirs is shedding, and soon their bed will look like a bird's nest, a soft explosion of feathers like a fresh coating of snow.

He does not notice her pained look, the strain in her wide eyes; he does not notice the red threads in their new bedding either, not until she's flown away, leaving only her downy feathers as proof she was ever his.

"Oh," Ranulf says, snapping back to himself in time to curl away from the beorc's warmth, ears laying flat against his head as he continues, "Sorry, I didn't mean-"

"You hid a murderer in a desk," Bruce points out.

It was the happy ending, Hildy frets; no one in news media likes a happy ending; no one likes all the loose ends tied up in a happy bow; maybe it's better when there's room for a sequel; should she have ended with a question?

On her way over, she finishes the gin and tonic and picks up a martini to match, but she misjudges a step and nearly tosses the whole thing on his slacks; he leans forward and catches Nora and martini both, so not a drop of either spills.

Nora gives him a cheeky grin as she straightens up and takes a seat next to him on the couch, saying, "Well, that's one way to get acquainted."

Once they arrive, those who follow the pitiful princess, stripped of birthright and bridal bed by her wicked brother, are surprised at how capably she rules; not flawlessly, of course, but their Queen remains impervious to every setback, learns quickly from her mistakes, even has the wits and the equanimity to carry off the trick of the oxhide.

They shower her with compliments, and in return she forces the smile she's long forgotten how to make with any real sincerity.

Acerbus is dead, and, somewhere along the way to Carthage, so is Elissa; only Dido remains.

She sends the letters, but she doesn't dare to hope, not anymore, not here.

Sometimes they ask about him, and she lies, always lies (never truth), tells them Simon is stupid, Simon doesn't care, she doesn't have a brother, she is no one, and eventually they stop saying his name, stop trying to tempt and torment her with him.

They pull her open and look inside, but they never see the lies, and so she rejoices, and they don't see that either, and he stays safe.

Greek mythology, Ariadne/Dionysus, I want to drink you sober

Her hair is matted, her face is dirty, her eyes are wet with tears, and still something about her calls to him.

The worshippers at his temple chatter about Ariadne, traitor to Crete, utterly undone by shame and grief; he had sought her out only to satisfy his own curiosity, to see for himself how such a woman might be, but now--now things are very different.

He takes a steadying gulp from his winecup and holds out the rest to her, to take if she so chooses: "Drink deep, my girl."
(dorky not-quite reference to Alexander Pope's "An Essay on Criticism", taken wildly out of context: A little learning is a dang'rous thing;/Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring:/There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,/And drinking largely sobers us again)
