3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

EDIT!  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS,  PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS
HERE!

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

Fire and Hemlock, Polly, storytelling is dangerous business
betony: (Default)

"And they lived happily ever after," Fiona quotes the night Polly phones her about the engagement.

Polly stiffens; a childhood full of Hero and Tan Coul's adventures have taught her how to properly interpret that phase: happily even though they'd be better served accepting their worry and grief, happily even though their artificial delight led each to grow to hate the other, happily even though Laurel lured them both into her clutches again.

"Not in Nowhere," she says firmly.

You start to forget what you put online when it's practically everything, and with two people involved you can never be entirely sure, but Charlotte's following Gigi on practically every social network ever invented, and that's sure enough. In one sense, she's relieved, because they're not together and it's not anyone's business anyway what happened in the office one night after hours and after some Bourbon that probably cost more than Charlotte liked to think about. Then again, sometimes she almost types it on Twitter herself, because if neither of them does, how will they know it really happened at all?

He would have built a palace for me, he says, but what he does is bring me to his parsonage, dark and cold and draughty. He thinks I am happy because he tries to read every wish in my eyes, but what he cannot do is change the fact that I am here in this house I never wanted and wonder how I ever got here. If only he would shout at me that a marriage takes two to make it work then maybe we could fight and make up and start anew, but he will never do that, and some days I wonder if he sees me at all.

Therewith from his belt of battle he raised the golden sheath,
And showed the peace-strings glittering about the hidden death:
Then he laid his hand on the Branstock, and cried: "O tree beloved,
I thank thee of thy good-heart that so little thou art moved:
Abide thou thus, green bower, when I am dead and gone
And the best of all my kindred a better day hath won!

Mac's voice rose exuberantly, clear and rich, knowing just what emphasis to put on what cadence, as he read from Sigurd the Volsung and the Fall of the Niblungs (it'd been his turn to pick the book; hers had been Twain's newest, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, but Mac of course had come home with epic Norse poetry, and she could not deny her poet his verses.) Rose gave up trying to concentrate on her mending and instead watched him breath life into the noble king, the brave shieldmaiden, the "son of Signy with the fierce and eager eyes"; it was all too easy to picture the hero Sigurd not as a Nordic warrior but a man with dishevelled hair, eyes that brightened under shining glasses, and lips that spoke both genius and love.

SQUEEEE!

Despite knowing of his presence, Desmond knows that Ezio will never know him the way Desmond knows Ezio. That doesn't stop him from growing an appreciation for the man, living years of his life in a matter of days, feeling closer to Ezio than anyone he's known in his lifetime despite the generations separating them.

As Desmond's desire to go into the Animus grows, so too does the ache in his chest, the knowledge that there is a family member who would actually love him, given the chance, crushing him day by day.

It didn't occur to Bell that wooing was a thing that Sherlock ever did; Joan had only mentioned prostitutes once, but it was the sort of thing that stuck in Bell's memory.

But Sherlock doesn't stop texting him between cases, and even though Bell really isn't into trivia, he's starting to look forward to Sherlock's commentary on the day - his jokes about Joan, his low opinion of anyone whose brain doesn't move at the speed of lightning, his nearly incomprehensible abbreviations.

DTTKU, Sherlock sends ('do try to keep up,' a fairly frequent observation), trying to flirt w/ u, dinner 2nite?, and Bell shakes his head and hems and haws over it, but finally he texts back yes.

Within a month their room is littered with robot parts and tools and blueprints, and despite having been friends with Kat since first year, none of it is even a little bit comprehensible to Annie.

When Annie comes through the door each night and lets the room wrap around her, somehow it still manages to be both reassuring and the tiniest bit of a thrill.

It's not surprising: it's how she feels about Kat.

He likes it when she plays Chopin, all light touches that never pause, in a constant stream of notes until he's losing even the ability to separate one key from another. It feels like floating, with no goal or climax, and with none of the violence of Bach or the heady crude sensuality of ragtime.

But he will take whatever she chooses to give him.

The drell homeworld was a desert planet and so their memories became rigid, snapping exact details into frame to ensure they could always find their way home. How ironic, then, that water was killing Thane Krios - the ocean is not a landscape to be memorized, and fluidity (the skill of the assassin, the sing-song dance of the blade and the gun, of muscle and sinew and bone) - fluid waves are impossible to map.

Shepard, then, was not a landscape: she was the sea, and he would spend the rest of his life drowning.

Shepard has seen planets burn, civilizations razed, and loved ones killed in every possible way; there is nothing left of history not dripping red from the Reapers’ destruction, the sacrifices made to stop them. In all that time the objective has never really changed, and it’s going to take more than a final desperate Catalyst negotiation to change it now.

Deep down she always felt it would end this way, and in the short time it takes to finish the red path she hopes the Reapers can finally feel it too.

“And did any of it turn out like you imagined when you were young?” Andy asked, a trace of regret in her voice.
"Well, in my version of the future, my wife always loved me more than you did, and I always had a full head of hair, but the rest is pretty much what I was expecting,” Toby sighed.

When she feels the Bringer's sword first part her flesh, she finds herself expecting to subsume him rather than to take the damage. They want what the First wants, and she expects that to be a sort of vengeance all its own. She remembers, though, that vengeance is a very human emotion as the sword sails through her and she is no longer anything at all.

You think you will regret this and you're probably right, but you've never been very good at resisting temptation, and it just feels so good to know exactly where you stand with a woman. No, it probably won't work out, since it never worked out before, but right now all you want is to walk down the aisle for the fifth time with someone who your mother would hate, and wake up every birthday after that with a stuffed sheep on the opposite pillow. Or worse - you can't wait to see how Carolyn could possibly step up that game.

He's not sure how it happened – some very odd freak accidents happened to a lot of Cardinals, then there was a last minute trip to Rome and then he was locked up in some old palace and missing his favourite TV shows, and people kept sneaking him money and telling him things in low voices and waggling their eyebrows, and some people died, and there was some sort of voting which was a bit like a reality show but there was less eating of disgusting things, and it was all terribly confusing.

Next thing Dougal knew he was dressed in white and riding around in something called the Popemobile, and it was a bit like that time he was Bo Peep on the annual spring float on Craggy Island and that sheep peed on his foot, except here there aren't any sheep and it's mad because people are screaming at him and cheering like he's some sort of football star!

At last he turns to the man who's been calling "Your Holiness" for several minutes and says, "Oh, right you are, you mean me," and grins, unable to understand why the poor man looks so pained.
