3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

EDIT!  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS,  PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS
HERE!

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

Greek mythology, Clytemnestra, I must go on standing/you can't break that/which isn't yours

Agamemnon never loved her, not like he loved battle, like he loved the clash of spears and swords, the sharp tang of blood, the bitter death cry of those he slew. Clytemnestra didn't need him to love her, didn't depend on anyone to love her, because her spine was stronger than every sword her husband had ever wielded, and her spirit was carved from marble, unbreakable. And she would never need Agamemnon, would never give herself to him, because her own two feet were much safer to stand on than any throned dais, far steadier than the Mycenaean throne Agamemnon gave to her could ever be.

(I've never written Greek mythology fic, but I've always thought Clytemnestra was fascinating. I hope I did your prompt justice!)

The courtiers keep asking him the same question in the same incredulous tone, as if they're astonished that a person of his background can even speak.

The honest answer would be that he's fairly certain his hands have forgotten how to shoe a horse, they are used to pens and handshakes now.

But he likes the look in their eyes when he answers yes, he can; as if only for a moment, they realise that they might one day go barefoot.

It has never been an issue of switching sides with Treize. It is only aligning himself with that which best matches his intentions. Zechs does the same for a while, thinking that his intentions match the other man's, but he eventually finds that he must walk a different path, and he wonders if Treize will ever be the one to follow blindly.

They are not welcome in every village, and while the Return of Magic is seen clear in every flying skipping stone and every untimely blooming bush for children, the adults only believe in the written down sort of Magic – however, they want it written on paper and not on the sweaty skin of a vagabond.
Childermass just buys a beer in an inn when the owners make it clear that they do not want them and is drinking it by himself as a raven haired stranger just falls down next to him.
They sit in silence, the other huddled in his black cloak and Childermass pretending not to notice him licking the stale beer from his lips until the other finishes it and leaves again with a nod.

Bredon was almost-five when his mother sat him down with a French primer and began teaching him his letters. "But why, mama?" he whimpered, squirming and trying to get away. Her answer of "So you'll be able to properly ignore Uncle Pan," did little to appease him.

Tulio still can't believe that after all that nonsense about friendship and idealism and beauty, Miguel was the one who left him--or maybe it's that after all the talk of independence and crime and sensibility, Tulio's still the one who got left.

"I've got places to see," Miguel said, bittersweet; he looks at Chel, says, "Besides, you don't need me any more."

He was wrong, Tulio thinks dazedly as, after five years, he sees that stupid head of blond hair again.

The final night of their visit to the court of Telmar, and their business is concluded and trade agreements and treaties have been signed, and all that's left is the farewell feast, and it's during the meal that they hear of trouble in one of the countries to the west of Telmar. It's one of the distant lands where no Narnian has ever been before, and Edmund catches Susan's eye as the discussion of war and wizards and rings of power swirls around them.

She knows that look, and when she retires to her room after the feast, she realizes they're not heading back home in the morning, that instead they'll be going further west, and when she catches a glimpse of herself in the mirror, she realizes she's grinning in delight.

Neoptolemus expects them to clash and clearly revels in the keeping of two such noble women, their reputations made intriguing by the war rather than ruined. Hermione plays along well enough, acknowledging Andromache but frostily before the court, making a fuss of begging her husband to send the foreign bitch away. But later, in the women's quarters, unveiled and raw, she falls to her knees before the other woman and asks, "Did you know my mother in Troy?"
