3 Sentence Ficathon

3 Sentence Ficathon Banner

EDIT!  THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PROMPTS,  PLEASE POST NEW PROMPTS
HERE!

CaramelSilver isn’t running the awesome 3 sentence ficathon this year, but she said I could do it in her place!!  (Banner courtesy of CaramelSilver and thanks so much!)

What is the 3 Sentence Ficathon?
This is a challenge where you answer a prompt with a fic consisting of only three sentences. It's open to all fandoms and you can post and answer as many prompts as you like, as many times as you want.

What do I do?
You post prompts!  When posting a prompt please format it this way:

fandom, character/pairing, prompt word/sentence.

Only one prompt per comment please.

What else?
You answer other posters' prompts in three sentences (or more if you can't stop yourself) and fill as many prompts as you want, as many times as you wish.  If you see that a prompt you loved has already been filled, go ahead and fill it again!  Multiple fills of the same prompt allowed.

I'm not a member of Dreamwidth
No problem.  You can comment anonymously or through open ID

Can anyone play?
Yes!  Please pimp this to your flist, I'd like as many as possible to come and participate!

I'm cross-posting to LJ but we will keep all prompts and fills here, so they are in one awesome place (and with less spam).

Here's a link for spreading the word to all your friends and comms (thanks [personal profile] snacky !)

How long can it go?
CaramelSilver kept the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon up for a month.  I'd suggest closing it on Sunday, April 7, 2013.  How does that sound? (edit:  If we reach 5,000 comments sooner, I'll start a new one).

Are there any rules about cross-posting?
Nope, you can post wherever you want, whenever you want.  Last year, a lot of folks collected their responses together and posted them on AO3 under the 3 sentence fiction tag.

Gosh who are all these people writing such great prompts and fills?
Good question!  Come to the friending meme and introduce yourself if you like.

As  [personal profile] lady_songsmith explains, for the 2011 3 Sentence Ficathon, [livejournal.com profile] grim_lupine created a delicious account to archive the 3 Sentence Ficathon.   [personal profile] lady_songsmith has reactivated the archive on delicious for this challenge, so, here is the account (nothing current added yet, though): https://previous.delicious.com/3sentence She asks that if anyone would be willing to help knock down the backlog of the prolific-ness thus far, let her know!!  (She adds:  I know folks are kinda down on delicious with the changes, but, hey, it's an archive already set up with useful tags!)

On the subject of archiving, I really encourage people to collect and post their fills elsewhere.  That way, we can find your work more easily again, redundancy is always good and it's really useful for future remixes and other challenges and gift exchanges you might participate in. I'll start a linking post so that if you do collect all your fills and post them on your own blog or an archive like AO3, you can give give us the link in comments.

Crossover Dark is Rising Sequence/Silmarillion, Olorin is Merriman, the music of Ainur and Gramarye.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-14 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Olórin -Gandalf, Mithrandir, Merriman, Merlin- but he still prefers Olórin, because that was his name at the dawn of Arda -Middle-earth, Earth, Men call it now- stands at the prow of the Pridwen -Vingilot, really, but it has been long since he thought of it that way-, looking down as the sea fades away under the Straight Road. The Music -Gramarye; oh! what Will would give to hear this, he always was musical- sings in his ears, then Manwë spins a breeze, and -there!- he can almost -no, he can- see the white peak of Taniquetil, the golden, jewel-strewn sands of the Teleri, bright Tirion atop Túna. He has no regrets; he can finally rest, after centuries, millennia battling the Dark -Morgoth's lies, Morgoth's hate, Morgoth's rage- and finally thrusting the forces of evil into the Timeless Void with their master (and he can finally speak to Nienna again).

-Ailavyn Siniyash (and I do NOT ship OlórinxNienna)
Thanks for the prompt, Pencil!

"Roberts" had seemed a perfectly viable surname at first, but it didn't work. Foolhardy adventurers were flabbergasted that a woman was commanding the dire ship, and they were too easy to knock out.

So she changed her name, just to give them fair warning.

Often we are at cross-purposes. One is trying to tell a story eloquently, with a play of light on the wall and monochrome images miming; gesture is the only language.
Then the child must needs shriek, or the engine snarl, or the man's gun fire - ratatat-tat! - and I ask you, must the vulgar crowd always ruin the delicate, the suggestive and subtle, with its demands for noise?

She wasn't attracted to Henry Crawford's hands, of course not.

We race because the skies are such a delight. North winds hug us; I'll squirm out of their
grip and flash ahead because, well, it's fun - those old winds do nothing but squeeze me and say how powerful I've become. Thunder doesn't linger, but she takes a second more to catch up, being heavier, and by that time the sky is mine.

He is a good letter-writer, that at least she can say, Eleanor thinks, he is a lot like Henry in this. The question, however, is if love, even if it is the sincerest, truest love imaginable, can survive on a letter or two a week, and the promise that one day, everything will change for the better. She looks up from her letter and out of the window, and she sees Henry and Miss Morland outside in the park, talking a walk, displaying no care for the world at all, and she wonders if for some people, it really is that easy.

Well, I'm pretty sure I'm required to fill this one.

After so long changing faces with every dusk and dawn, Ragnelle no longer thinks of herself as one thing or the other, foul or fair. Her husband lauds her beauty (and her wisdom, she must give him credit there), but she remembers him flinching, coming to her bed with reluctance rather than pleasure.

She may wear only one face now, but that doesn't mean she's forgotten the other, that it doesn't lurk somewhere beneath her smooth skin.

Her Aunt Clytemnestra is not a warm woman, and Hermione is not Iphigenia, but they have muddled along well enough for these ten years. She mostly thinks of herself as motherless, anyway - she has a few memories of Helen, a bright peripheral presence who may or may not have loved her, against years of hearing about the Spartan traitor-whore; it's not easy to determine what she should believe about her mother, so she has given up trying.

This woman who stands before her, renamed her mother and her father's wife and the queen of Sparta, does not look particularly broken, or ruined, or beautiful.

In them is not a monster; merely a woman - and then nothing at all.
